This is Neil Degrasse Tyson on Cosmos showing an entry in Carl Sagan’s datebook. The day he got to meet Sagan and tour his facility.
He was just 17, but Sagan spent the whole day showing him around and was really cool to him.
When he dropped Neil off at the bus station at the end of the day, he gave him his home phone number and told him that if the bus didn’t arrive, to call him and he could stay at his house with Sagan and his family.
(Paraphrasing Dr. Tyson) “I already knew I wanted to be a scientist but now I knew what kind of person I wanted to be.”
How awesome would it be to not only meet someone you greatly respect (perhaps even consider a personal hero/inspiration) and they are not only all you expected, they are more?
I actually teared up listening to Neil tell this story.
“[T]he third section of the movie also contains an image that’s remarkably Kirby-like. When Dave enters the Discovery’s computer center to “kill” HAL, he’s shot from below, looking like one of Kirby’s iconic superhumans. As an artist, Kirby made sense for 2001, because he excelled at drawing futuristic technology and he thought in widescreen. Visually, the 2001 Marvel Treasury is a thing of beauty, with the oversized format (10 by 14 inches rather than than the more common 7.25 by 10.5) suiting Kirby’s preference for big panels and two-page splashes. Kirby borrows some compositions directly from the film, but he adds his own dynamic poses and granite faces. He gives a somewhat stately film a jolt of Kirby electricity.”
My friend gave me Kirby’s 2001 last year, and it’s the most amazing thing, ever.
Believe me when I say, these are the BEST Muppet bloopers ever. Please, please WATCH. You get to watch Frank Oz’s sanity slowly slip away. Priceless.
"Hubba wah?! HUBBA HUBBA HUBBA WAH?! Hubba WAH?!?"

I post this cheek-tongued portrait, accepting the risk that the Moon landing deniers will try to use it as evidence.
