Why Michael Collins is my hero:

How many of you honestly know who this man is without looking him up?

Michael Collins was an astronaut, a crew member of the Apollo 11 mission that brought men to the Moon 45 years ago today.

While Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon however, he had to stay behind and make sure the command module was ready to bring them back to Earth.

This man gets no fame or credit except amongst the educated.

I think he deserves it all.

For all the challenges involved in going to the Moon, going there and then not setting foot upon it is a greater task tenfold. He made that sacrifice so he could bring his brothers home and to this day, no one knows his name.

The spirit of human endeavor that will enable us to go to Mars and beyond will require not one but hundreds and more Michael Collins. This sort of selfless and staunch heroism is what will lead us into a greater future.

Thank you Michael Collins, you’re my hero and I love you for what you did. Happy 45th anniversary.

Happy Mooniversary!

Arguably one of the most important aspects of this event was that people could see it.
